Welcome to Liberty Kids, where we are Joyful in Jesus, Kind, and Trustworthy!
Before checking your child into Liberty Kids for the first time, here are a few things you may want to know!
Entrance: There is one access point to the Liberty Kids wing, which is the stairwell behind the downstairs youth rooms and kitchen or the outdoor Liberty Kids entrance. There is no access to the Liberty Kids wing from the downstairs fellowship hall entrance stairwell.
Check-In: Check-In begins 15 minutes prior to each service and ends 5 minutes after service begins. At check-in, you will use an iPad to check in your child(ren) and print name badges for each of them. These name badges should be placed on the back of your child’s shirt. In addition, you will receive one parent check out tag for you to keep and show to the classroom teachers at check-out. A check-in worker will hand you a colored card to “admit” your child to the correct classroom, and then you may walk your child back to the classroom that matches the color of their card. Give the card to the teacher and sign them in to their room on the sign in sheet.
Classroom Capacity: Each class has a maximum capacity for each service, in accordance with our Child Protection Policy. You will know at check-in whether a classroom has hit capacity or not. It is possible that your child’s class will be full on a particular Sunday. We will try to prioritize giving guests a spot in when a classroom is getting full. Consider having an activity bag ready in the car in case your child(ren) needs to attend a service or Equipping Group with you.
Classrooms: Classrooms are broken down by age/grade. Children will age up or ”graduate” to a new room after a birthday and or at the discretion of the parent, teacher(s), and the director of Liberty Kids.
Green Room (6 months - 1 year old)
Orange Room (1 year olds - walking)
Yellow Room (ages 2-3)
Blue Room (ages 4-6 (Pre-K and Kindergarten))
Purple Room (Grades 1-2)
Red Room (Grades 3-5)
During the 9:00am service, Grade 1-5 will combine in the red room.
Check Out: You will pick your child up from their classroom immediately after your service or equipping group ends. Show your parent tag to your child’s teacher to check them out. You or a teacher should remove your child’s name tag as an official way of checking them out of Liberty Kids and back into your care.
Diaper Policy: Your child’s classroom check-in sheet will leave a space for you to indicate whether you’d like a teacher to change a diaper, or if you’d like to be texted to change it yourself. You can also add a note in case it’s needed (Ex- “Liam needs diaper cream - front pocket of diaper bag”).
Bathroom Policy: Assistance in the bathroom stall will be as minimal as possible, but we will help if/when a child needs it. Your child’s check-in sheet will have a space available for notes. Feel free to share anything that will be helpful for your child (Ex- “Harry needs help pulling up pants”, “Sarah could use a reminder to go”, “Theo is in a pull-up but might ask to go to the bathroom”, or “Leo needs a boost to reach the toilet”). Our full Child Protection Policy on diaper changes and bathroom use are available for you to read at the Parent Resource Station or by emailing alyssa@lbcliberty.org.
Sick Policy: Children should not be in Liberty Kids if they:
have had a fever or temperature above 99.9 in the past 24 hours,
have thrown up in the past 6 hours or are experiencing nausea, or
are known to have a sickness (and/or rash) that could spread to others
We will call you to collect your child from Liberty Kids if they exhibit any of these symptoms.
What to Bring or Leave With Your Child: Please label anything you plan to leave with your child in the classroom. We discourage children from bringing toys from home, as we do not want anything that belongs to you to walk away with another child or to become lost or damaged. In addition, outside toys can also become a distraction to the rest of the class. Each age group is encouraged to bring the following items:
6 Months- 1 Year Olds (Cubbies are available in Green and Orange rooms)
Diaper bag with change of clothes
Diapers, wipes
Sippy cup/bottle if you want them to have it during Liberty Kids. We do not have access to hot water or a refrigerator, so keep that in mind.
The 1-year old classroom (Orange Room) has cups with lids available with water for snack time if you do not wish stop bring a sippy cup or bottle.
2-6 Year Olds
Diapers or pull-ups and wipes if needed (not a whole diaper bag)
Water will be provided in disposable cups for children. Bringing their own labeled water bottle/sippy cup is fine but not necessary!
1st-5th Graders
A smiling face!
A bible if desired
Snack: We will offer cups of water and Goldfish crackers for a snack at each service hour for every class. If you’d like to provide a snack for your child, please bring it in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name. We have veggie straws available as an alternate snack in the case of dairy or gluten allergies.
Contacting Parents: Each child will have a parent’s phone number associated with their check-in info and printed on their name badge. Teachers will primarily text and/or call parents if an issue arises during the service and we need to get ahold of you. Please make sure you have your phone on vibrate or check it periodically in the event that we need to contact you!
Graduating to the Worship Service: We expect our older kids to attend the regular worship gathering each week. Our classes will repeat the same lesson and activities both hours. This means that when your child is old enough to become “bored” of repeating activities, it's probably time to graduate them from spending both hours in Liberty Kids and take them with you for the regular worship service for one of the two hours. We’ll encourage you to transition your child(ren) to participate in corporate worship around the age of 5.
Discipline and Communication: We will offer gentle correction and utilize time-outs or similar methods to correct misbehavior in the classroom. We seek to show the gospel even in our interactions with kids in the midst of misbehavior; we will offer correction and give them a chance to reconcile with friends and/or teachers if needed. You can expect a teacher to talk with you during check-out if your child needed more than three corrections with consequences for the same behavior or if they were hurting another person physically or with their words. Please be patient with the teachers and know that we’re not trying to put you on the spot when this happens! We genuinely want to partner with you in your kids’ discipleship, and we want you to know how your children are doing in Liberty Kids.
Parent Resource Station: There is a table in the Liberty Kids wing with resources available for you to access anytime! You can find Take-Home Items and Suggested Resources there, including:
Monthly Sword Bible Memory Card
Liberty Kids information and updates
Family devotional books that match our curriculum for you to peruse
Sword Bible Memory: We will use Sword Bible Memory together throughout the year! Every age will memorize the same Bible verses, and the Sword program has every verse broken down into appropriate lengths for each age. This will be part of the lesson each week. Parents will be able to take home the new SWORD Bible memory card each month!
Gospel Story Curriculum: We will use the Gospel Story Curriculum from Marty Machowski. Each class and age will learn the same Bible story, although the lessons and activities will differ by age. Your whole family will be able to talk about the same stories each week and memorize the same verse(s) each month. This curriculum works especially well with the Gospel Story Bible, which we would encourage you to get for your family to use as you review the stories and practice the SWORD Bible Memory at home.
Thank you for entrusting your child to our care!
