BOBBY SUMNER

Bobby serves Liberty Baptist Church as an associate Pastor

Bobby grew up in a Christian home where his parents taught him about the love of God and the blessing of God’s Word. Through this upbringing, the Lord brought Bobby to faith and repentance at a young age. Though it is difficult for him to remember life before Christ saved him, Bobby struggled as a young Christian with anger towards others and a desire to make much of himself. As he has grown, he has seen the sanctifying work of the Spirit in his life, particularly in helping him love others and treasure the reality that he exists to bring glory to God. Bobby first began to discern a call to ministry in his late teens, and after God brought Bobby and his family to LBC, he was affirmed in this call. Now, he aspires to pursue pastoral ministry in the hope that God would use him to help others grow in the likeness of Jesus.
 
Bobby joined LBC in May 2017 and became a Lay Pastor in December 2019. He serves the church through helping lead community groups, leading worship, teaching or preaching as needed, and shepherding through hospitality and pastoral care. In his time at LBC, Bobby regularly hears testimony from members of how thankful they are to be part of a healthy local church and how God has used this church to help them want to study the Scriptures, fight their sin, and draw near to God. He prays regularly that LBC would grow in love for God and for one another, that God would stir church members’ affections to know and worship Him rightly.
 
Outside of his ministry in the church, Bobby enjoys spending time with his wife, Sara, and their four children—Elliot, Esther, Oliver, and Charlton. He works at Liberty Hardwoods, where he leads the Human Resources department and works with the day-to-day operations of the company. He enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, playing music, and drawing.
