The statistics are staggering. Nearly 5 million women in the United States experience some form of physical abuse every single year. To put some skin on that statistic, this means a woman is beaten every 9 seconds.
As a Christian and a pastor, these statistics are overwhelming. They not only grieve me, but also force me to recognize that in all likelihood someone in our church has been or will be in an abusive situation. If that is you, here is what I want you to know:
The abuse is not your fault.
Many women remain in an abusive situation because they believe they have done something to deserve it. But that is a lie! Abuse is never your fault.
Any form of abuse is sinful.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, justifies abuse. Humans are made in the image of God, and thus, abuse of any kind—psychological or physical—is an act of sin. God hates it and so do we. And we want to help you safely get out of this sinful situation.
Help is available.
You are not to blame, and you are not alone. We are here for you. We will listen, believe, assist, protect, and support you. All you need to do is let us know. Contact us or someone else in the church that you trust.
